Therapeutic Rationale:
The body is used as a fun, engaging and creative method for clients of most ages 4 years and up to develop an awareness of emotional language. This is a wonderful tool to explore the differences between emotions (labels) and feelings (body sensations/ somatic work)
Materials needed:
You’re welcome to use markers, pencils, crayons etc.
Application:
Inform your client that you’d like to make an artwork with them called the Body Scan - You can invite your client to
Associate an emotion with a colour
Scan through the figure of the body below to identify where and how intense they feel the emotion.
If they feel a lot of happiness in they’re heart we want to see big colours of happiness
Little bit of sadness of tears can be drawn with small tears or shapes next to the eyes etc.
